Kate Walford

Head Teacher

Fully qualified primary School teacher with Early Years and Infant specialism.

I first discovered the magical place that is Hambledon nursery as a parent when my eldest son attended the nursery. Several years later, I was very lucky to be able to join Hambledon Nursery School in January 2016 as an Early Years Practitioner. In March 2017, I took on the role of Afternoon Supervisor for the Red Room (3-4 year olds) and in September 2019 I became the Head Teacher. Hambledon nursery is a lovely, caring, fun and stimulating nursery, the children are fantastic and it an absolute pleasure and privilege to be working now as head teacher.

My previous roles and experiences include working for over twenty years as a Primary school teacher, working predominantly in reception and nursery classes where my passion for early years education has endured. I have also been a childminder when my family were young and at home with me.

My family are very important to me. My husband and I have three children. Together we love walking and camping.

TRACEY JIMMISON – Blue Room Supervisor / Deputy Head

I have always worked with children, training as a nanny when I left school and then working as a nanny for several years. When I had my own children I volunteered at their nursery and soon rediscovered my joy of working with young children and under went further training in early years. I have worked at a number of local nurseries in various positions from practitioner to room supervisor to nursery manager. When I applied to work at Hambledon in 2006 it was for a Blue Room practitioner and quickly escalated to Room Supervisor and then Deputy Head. I thoroughly enjoy my role and have the envious position of settling the children into the Blue Room and watching them mature and flourish as they progress into the Red Room and then onto school.

Hambledon is a very unique setting and having the opportunity to work with children in such a natural environment is a huge bonus. I enjoy all aspects of my job but my particular passion has to be our fabulous outdoor facilities.

I did my first typing evening class at the age of eighteen as my mother said I could not go to drama school without a backup plan.  I have certainly worked in many varied offices over the years (and picked up a few additional skills along the way) but my love of the theatre and singing endures.

Working at Hambledon is a very happy experience for me, Arriving ‘at the office’ every morning is a joy, just walking through the nursery garden lifts the spirits.  I love the sound of young children playing. My children are now older but with four myself I am used to lots of noise and bustle all day …so I am happy to work with the door open and occasionally like to join in the singing!

KELLY SHAW – Red Room Afternoon Supervisor

Hambledon is a very special place, one I wish I had known about when my own son was nursery age. My journey in early years began here at Hambledon in September 2015 when I joined the team as an Early Years Practitioner. In September 2018, I took on the role of afternoon supervisor in the Red Room, and I completed my NCFE CACHE level 3 diploma for Early Years Workforce in March 2019.

I am passionate about my role within the nursery, providing children with nurturing experiences, teaching lifetime skills and making memories that they will always remember.

I am very proud to be part of such an amazing team and lucky to do a job that I love every day.

What Our Parents & Carer Say About Us

We chose Hambledon for our daughter after seeing the wonderful outdoor space, it was unmatched by any other local nursery and we just knew she would love all the adventures it brings.

Hambledon Nursery School is where my toddler looks forward to going. His key worker has taken the time to understand what makes him feel comfortable as well as entertained.

We chose Hambledon Nursery due to its idyllic setting, the fantastic outdoors facilities and its wonderfully experienced staff. We feel very lucky that our son has had such a creative, caring and wholesome start to his education. We couldn’t have asked for more.

Hannah Small

Hambledon Nursery School is a truly special place. The staff are always so warm and welcoming and go to great lengths to really get to know the children. So much so that they plan activities around the children’s individual interests.

Hambledon Nursery is a very special place. It provides warmth, care and creative learning opportunities in equal measure. Each child’s individuality is acknowledged and celebrated by staff, providing them with a robust sense of self worth and self esteem.

Having looked around a number of local nurseries, Hambledon Nursery School was the one that felt most like home. The warmth and care, combined with the professionalism, of all the staff was very noticeable and something I am grateful for every time I drop off my child.

Every day our daughter is bouncing with excitement to see her friends, play, read and make a complete mess with all the arts and crafts available. She is truly happy and that’s all I can ask for from a nursery.

The children have freedom to choose activities, but also a structured rhythm to the day. My little one particularly enjoys story and song time. We are so happy he is settled in to a caring environment.

Flora Lucas

I love the fact my child can get lovely and messy at nursery! He has had so much fun in messy play, which we tend not to do at home, and I am amazed how engaged the staff are and how much creative freedom they give the children with the resources. Wonderful!

My daughter absolutely loves nursery! I honestly cannot thank them enough for the care, nurturing and understanding that has moulded my daughter into the kind and confident child she is today. My only complaint is that she cannot stay until she is 18.

Sabrina Dwen

My daughters both thrived at Hambledon Nursery, making it the perfect stepping stone to starting school.

Katie Lindley

My child always looks forward to walking through the nursery school door in the morning to see what resources and activities there are. As these change every day there is always plenty to talk about at pick up time.
